On Thursday 29 October, The ISC was delighted and extremely proud of the talent and creativity that shone through at Ambition’s 3rd annual concert, ‘Beyond the Lights’. The group of 10 young people between the ages of 15-20 performed to an audience of over 130 guests, in the Willis Auditorium. It’s clear to see that Ambition are going from strength to strength. Fresh from winning the Aviva Community Fund award in February and recording their own version of Jessie J’s ‘Flashlight’ at Island Records, Universal Studios in London in September - they are unstoppable. It was a truly inspiring performance, many of the songs written and produced by Ambition and covered themes of cyber bullying, love and loss, body image and growing up. The room was filled with the fun, laughter, heart and powerful energy of these kids - using their talents to perform, working to earn money to support their community.

Thank you for your support

Willis-ReceptionWe are tremendously grateful to this year‘s host Mary O’Connor, Global Head of Financial Institutions Industry at Willis Group Holdings. We enjoyed a wonderful cocktail reception and pre-concert business networking, and then very glamorous post-concert VIP drinks on the 23rd floor in the Willis Client Advocate dining room, affording spectacular views over London. This year’s event gathered enormous support from all across the insurance community both in London and Manchester. Inga Beale, CEO, Lloyd’s kindly filmed a message of support for us to play on the night.

We were thrilled to see so many friendly new and familiar faces supporting the event, many of whom had attended previous events at The Old Library, Lloyd’s, 2013 and at the Barbican Arts Centre, 2014. Our intention was to raise much needed funds for Father Andrew, Founder of SAFE to continue the work he began in St Francis and the Sacred Heart parish in Gorton in 2011. The area is one of the most deprived in the UK and the regeneration being brought about by Father Andrew and the SAFE team has been little short of astonishing.

Fundraising for SAFE 2016

This year’s event raised over £7,000. This means that SAFE can continue to provide the music tuition, and maintain the running of the Lady Bird recording studio, which in turn will continue to inspire the Ambition music performances during 2016. The kid’s commitment and hard work in song writing and performance is also generating income for the overall project: the community cafe, gardens and community centre. This income even pays for the vegetables which are needed for the weekly cooking and nutrition classes, which go towards gaining accreditation for jobs in the catering industry.

If you missed the performance please download the event programme. The Programme.

If you wish to support this message of love and hope in the broader community, you can become a SAFE Patron either as a business or in a personal capacity. If you are interested, please complete the donation form and send it to [email protected]. SAFE Gorton Donation Form
